About Back Porch Fabrics

The quilt store timeline started ages ago with Gail Abeloe and her mother Dorothy Abeloe, and Dorothy’s quilt shop in San Juan Bautista CA. Cut to the 1990s when Gail and her husband Gary opened Back Porch Fabrics just a block away from the current location at 218 Grand Avenue, Pacific Grove.

After 28 years, Gail and Gary were ready to retire. Fortunately, long-time customer Claudia Sammis was equally ready for new adventures, and ownership changed hands in 2024.

The good news for visitors is that it’s been a seamless transition with the same “vibe,” and the same friendly and talented staff here to help you.
